Our weekly meetings this spring will be held on Friday nights at 7:00 pm in the Bluestone Room of the Mountainlair unless otherwise indicated. A few weeks we will need to change nights or location due to scheduling conflicts. Typical meetings will consist of a song or two, announcements, and a Bible study, followed by optional “Power Groups” for those who want to stay. ”Power Groups” are small groups led by our student leaders that focus on discussion of the Word and prayer each week. There will also be an activity each week following the regular meeting (see the activity schedule posted on this site).
Our topic for the semester is “Set Apart: The Upstream Christian in a Downstream World.” The study will begin with a focus on the holiness of God. Subsequent studies will delve into implications of His holiness, including, the Gospel, sanctification, and separation from the world. We will spend a number of weeks discussing how to live a life that is separated from the world by using Biblical principles to determine right from wrong in “grey areas.” All Christians struggle from time to time with knowing right from wrong in areas not directly addressed in the Bible. We hope our study this semester will give guidance in making decisions in these areas. We hope you can join us this semester!
Although our complete spring semester schedule is still being developed here are a few of the highlights:
1. Guest speaker Jan Milton, founder of “Operation Renewed Hope” will be with us on Friday night, January 27. ORH is a Christian relief organization that provides disaster relief both domestically and abroad. It also sponsors medical mission teams to third world countries on a yearly basis. Along with its focus on humanitarian aid, ORH also focuses on the spread of the Gospel in conjunction with its humanitarian efforts.
2. Third annual “Campus Light Indoor Soccer Tournament” on Saturday, February 18 in Stansbury Hall from 10:00 am – 4;00 pm. The tournament is a 6 on 6 tournament and is open to all WVU students. The first 8 teams to contact us will be registered. Please contact us for details.
3. Spring break trip to Clemson University for the “Cross Impact Campus Ministries” training week on March 28-30. We will sit in on a Cross Impact meeting, meet Clemson University students, and sit in on some of the training sessions dealing with local-church campus ministries.
4. College & Career Retreat at the Wilds Christian Camp in Rosman, NC on March 30-April 1. We will go directly from Clemson to the Wilds on Friday, March 30.
5. Evangelistic meetings with the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Team at Faith Baptist Church (809 Greenbag Road) on April 15-20 (7:00 pm nightly). We are also planning to have the team on campus at 9:00 pm (specific nights to be determined) for a couple of nights that week. Campus Light Ministries and Faith Baptist Church will once again be sponsoring free dinners for students on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church (809 Greenbag Road in Morgantown). Most weeks the menu will consist of home-cooked meals by the ladies of Faith Baptist. Once a month Campus Light will be responsible ourselves for the menu. We might have pizza or we might try to make it ourselves! At any rate, all students are invited each week.
Immediately following the meal each week at 7:00 pm there will be a college Bible study for all students separate from the regular Wednesday night service.
I would like to welcome each of you to our new blog/web site for Campus Light Ministries at WVU! Our old site was in desperate need of updating. We are not finished yet, but we have enough done for each of you to get a taste of who we are and what we do. If you are a current or incoming WVU student we welcome you to check out our pages to learn more about us. Feel free to contact us if you have questions. If you are a current Campus Light student, please feel free to suggest ideas or changes for the new site.
Sincerely,
Dave Greear
